Literacy is...

Literacy is...an open door to the world. It is how we learn about the world around us and use our imagination to construct our views of faraway places.

  1. I love your blog picture! Your metaphor immediately made me think of Dr. Seuss and his book, Oh the Place You'll Go. It also relates to your subject area in that you can use text to take students abroad and introduce them to a new world.

  2. Thanks! We do tend to read a lot of Dr. Seuss in my house - and once it's stuck in your head, you're rhyming for weeks! But, I do hope to take my students around the world - not just France, but Haiti, Morocco, Canada, Martinique...and all over! My background is in Anthropology, so I really like culture.

  3. I like how you define literacy and I also like the Dr.Seuss book Oh the places You'll go. I also think literacy is one one way we can take our minds to places we cannot take our bodies.
